Apex Legends has a variety of weapons that allow the players to choose the gun that best fits their play style and run with it. The weapons exist in different categories, and their looks are fully customizable through the in-game skins.

All weapons are consistent with their performance and spray patterns, although there are certain situations where some weapons may act differently. For example, LMGs are more powerful with a higher ammo capacity when playing as Rampart.

Weapon Categories in Apex Legends

All the weapons in Apex Legends are divided into seven categories based on the way they work. These categories are:

  • Pistols
  • Shotguns
  • Assault Rifles (ARs)
  • Sub Machine Guns (SMGs)
  • Light Machine Guns (LMGs)
  • Marksman Rifles
  • Sniper Rifles

All weapons in the game follow a set spray pattern. And to improve your Apex Legends aim, you must know the spray patterns of all guns. So let’s go over each category and study the spray pattern of each weapon in Apex Legends.

Pistols

P2020

The weakest and most common loot weapon in Apex Legends, the P2020 is a semi-automatic weapon you are most likely to encounter in the game. People usually pick it up in emergencies when they can’t find a better weapon. It also serves as a means for carrying attachments for when you find an R99 or R301 Carbine.

The spray pattern of this weapon is seemingly random and difficult to control. So it is suggested that you take your time and line up each shot before you shoot.

RE-45

The recoil pattern for the RE-45 looks like a straight, diagonal line that bends towards the right side as it goes up. So, to counter it, you need to move your crosshair in the opposite direction.

The RE-45 is also like the P2020, which serves as a means to carry weapon ammo and attachments until you find a better weapon. But, unlike the P2020, it is somewhat powerful, and in some situations, it would make sense to carry it as a secondary weapon in your inventory.

Wingman

The Wingman is a semi-automatic weapon, and when fired consecutively, its shots go straight up and every so slightly to the right side.

The Wingman is not only the most powerful pistol but one of the strongest weapons in Apex Legends. It fires high-damage rounds that greatly reward players who can accurately land their shots.

Shotguns

Mozambique

Every shot of the Mozambique has the same pattern. It fires three pellets in the shape of a triangle, as seen in the image above.

What previously used to be a meme weapon, the Mozambique has become much stronger than it used to be after its mag size was increased from 3 to 6. You can often see players using the Mozambique as their secondary weapon to finish off enemies low on health.

Peacekeeper

Shotguns in Apex Legends don’t have a set spray pattern. Instead, there is a certain radius around your crosshair where the shotgun’s pellets hit. So when using the Peacekeeper, just keep in mind its bullet spread which spreads out from the center, much like a spider’s web.

Mastiff

Having one of the simplest bullet spreads, the Mastiff has the easiest to control recoil in the game. It fires all pellets in a straight horizontal line, and that line can also be shortened by aiming down sights, making the pellets even more accurate.

However, it should be noted that the gun has a high kickback after every shot. So you should avoid firing back to back when using the Mastiff.

Eva-8 Auto

Like the Peacekeeper, the Eva-8 auto has a circular radius around the crosshair where its bullet pellets go. And interestingly, the pellets spread in the shape of an 8, hence its name.

Assault Rifles (AR)

Flatline

Flatline’s spray starts by going towards the left side before taking a short turn in between and continuing towards the left.

One of the best Assault Rifles in the game, the Flatline’s spray is fairly easy to control, although some new players may find it challenging at first.

Havoc

The Havoc almost has a straight vertical recoil that takes a short detour after firing a few shots before tilting slightly to the left.

One of the best and easiest to control ARs in Apex Legends, the Havoc is a really powerful weapon if you can find the Turbocharger Hop-up for it. It also has the highest magazine capacity out of all the Assault Rifles.

R-301 Carbine

The R-301 Carbine has a straight recoil for the first couple of bullets, which then becomes more zig-zag as you continue to spray down its magazine. To use this weapon most effectively, you should shoot this weapon in short bursts.

Hemlok Burst AR

The Hemlok Burst AR has a simple straight recoil pattern, but since it shoots in quick bursts of three, the spray can be a little difficult to control. The spray starts by going up towards the left for the first few bullets. Then it acquires more of a zig-zag pattern.

Sub Machine Guns (SMGs)

Alternator

The Alternator’s spray is simple and goes straight up and towards the right side. Then almost halfway through the spray, it turns towards the left and continues in that direction.

The Alternator has two separate chambers that fire alternatively, hence its name. This is also seen in the spray pattern, which has two independent lines indicating the spray.

R-99

The R-99 spray pattern goes up briefly towards the right side before turning left. After which, it becomes increasingly random and difficult to control.

The R-99 is perhaps the most popular and powerful SMG in the right hands. It is essentially a better version of the RE-45 pistol and is often used as a secondary with a Shotgun or AR.

Volt SMG

The Volt SMG has a spray that starts off simple by going up and towards the right. But after a few bullets, the spray becomes increasingly more random and difficult to control, so it is suggested to shoot this weapon in short bursts.

Prowler Burst PDW

The only other burst weapon besides the Hemlok, the Prowler Burst SMG has a spray that goes straight up and toward the left before turning to the right side.

This gun also becomes difficult to control after a few bullets, so you shouldn’t completely empty the magazine in one spray unless the enemy is in close range.

Light Machine Guns (LMGs)

Spitfire

Everyone’s favorite gun, the Spitfire, has an easy-to-control spray that follows a zig-zag pattern. It starts by going up to the left side, and after some time, it swiftly turns towards the right.

The slow fire rate of the Spitfire allows you to easily control the gun’s spray.

Rampage

The last addition to the LMGs in Apex Legends, the Rampage has the slowest fire rate of all the Automatic shooting weapons. However, the gun is still incredibly powerful due to its high damage.

It has great Iron Sights which don’t disrupt your field of view. The fire rate of the Rampage LMG can be bumped up for some time by using a Thermite grenade.

L-Star EMG

The L-Star uses energy ammo and can be fired infinitely without reloading, given that it doesn’t overheat.

This weapon’s spray pattern goes straight up and slightly towards the right, making it easy to control.

Devotion LMG

The Devotion LMG has a fire rate that starts off slow but increases as you spray down the weapon. The spray of this weapon is also fairly straightforward and easy to control. But it is suggested that you use it with a Turbocharger Hop-up.

Without the Turbocharger, the Devotion LMG has a very slow fire rate initially, which isn’t that useful against skilled players.

Marksman Rifles

Longbow DMR

The Longbow DMR fires a single shot at a time and cannot be sprayed down like other DMRs, which is why it doesn’t have a spray pattern.

G7 Scout

The best gun for medium to long ranges, the G7 Scout has a spray pattern that goes straight up, making it fairly easy to control.

It is suggested that you don’t spray down this weapon if you are aiming at medium or long-range enemies. Instead, take your time to line up every shot perfectly before you fire.

30-30 Repeater

The 30-30 Repeater has a similar spray to the G7 Scout, which goes straight up without tilting. And you should use it just like you would use the Scout.

Triple Take

As you can guess from its name, the Triple Take fires bullets that split into three. This gun allows you to be flexible with your aim since it covers a wider area.

Sniper Rifles

Kraber

The most powerful and sought-after sniper in Apex Legends, the Kraber allows you to one-shot an enemy even if he has full armor equipped if you can successfully land a headshot.

Since the Kraber is a Bolt-Action sniper, it only shoots one bullet before needing to be reloaded.

Sentinel

Like the Kraber, the Sentinel is also a Bolt-Action sniper and cannot be sprayed down. However, it does have worse damage than the Kraber and can be charged up using 2 shield cells to momentarily increase its damage.

Charge Rifle

The Charge Rifle shoots out an energy beam instead of regular bullets. This beam starts at the center and moves outward as it fires completely.
